A beautifully made suit deserves a beautifully made pair of shoes.
It sounds simple, but footwear is sometimes the last consideration when putting an outfit together. We spend time choosing the right cloth, considering the cut of a jacket, the width of a trouser and all the small details that make a bespoke suit personal. Yet the shoes you choose can have just as much influence on the finished look.
Quite simply, the right pair of shoes can complete an outfit. The wrong pair can undo much of the good work above them.
The trouser and the shoe work together
It is something we often discuss with clients during fittings. A trouser does not exist in isolation. Its length, width and break all relate to the shoe beneath it. A beautifully proportioned trouser falling onto an elegant shoe creates a clean, considered line. Change the shape or weight of that shoe and the same trouser can suddenly feel very different.
Why Church's, and why Northampton
This is one of the reasons we have always admired Church's.
With a shoemaking heritage stretching back to Northampton in 1873, Church's represents many of the qualities we value in bespoke tailoring. Craftsmanship, attention to detail and an appreciation that something made well should not simply look good today, but continue to serve you for many years to come.
Shoes that become yours with wear
There is also something reassuring about investing in a proper pair of shoes. Much like a bespoke suit, they become yours with wear. The leather develops character, the shoe begins to feel increasingly personal and, when cared for properly, a quality pair can remain part of your wardrobe for years.
Oxford, Derby or loafer: choosing the style
Choosing the right style is equally important. A classic Oxford brings a certain formality to a business or occasion suit, while a Derby can soften the look. A loafer feels more relaxed and works beautifully as tailoring becomes less structured. Even the choice between black and brown, or a smoother and more characterful leather, can subtly change the personality of an outfit.
Quality, craft and service in common
For us, the connection with Church's feels very natural. We share a belief in quality, craftsmanship and, importantly, service. Taking the time to understand what somebody needs, how they dress and what will work for their lifestyle is every bit as important as the product itself.
So rather than calling this a collaboration in the traditional sense, we see it as bringing together two things that have always belonged together: good tailoring and good shoes.
An introduction, if you would like one
If you are considering your next bespoke suit and would like to complete the look with a pair of Church's, we would be delighted to make an introduction and help point you in the right direction.
After all, when you have taken the time to get everything else just right, your shoes should be no exception.
