Dressing for Success with Fielding & Nicholson and Risch
Dominik Risch of Risch Shoemakers, Zürich, and I decided to hold an exclusive event bringing together our clients to discuss the evolving business wardrobe in a post-COVID world. Initially unsure of the turnout, we went ahead with setting up the space, sending out invitations, and finalising the event details. To our delight, nearly 50 attendees filled the London showroom, making the evening a resounding success!

The Evening’s Agenda
The night featured two key presentations: I spoke on how to dress for success in the new professional landscape, while Dominik shared insights into the art of shoemaking. Following the talks, we hosted a charity auction in support of Médecins Sans Frontières, which turned out to be a major highlight of the evening.
Our tailoring prize raised an impressive £2,300, while the shoemaking experience contributed an additional £800. Not bad for my first time as an auctioneer!

During my presentation, I emphasised how the traditional business wardrobe has evolved post-pandemic. It has now segmented into three key categories:
- High-Quality Suiting & Shirts – While suits are worn less frequently, when they are, the focus is on superior quality and impeccable fit. Premium fabrics are now a priority over traditional choices.
- Smart Casual Wear – A versatile wardrobe that includes jackets, casual shirts, well-matched chinos, and tailored trousers such as flannels or patterned wool.
- ‘Casual Casual’ Tailoring – Bespoke tailoring now extends to casual essentials, including tailored jeans, high-quality sweaters, hoodies, sneakers, casual trousers, polo shirts, and T-shirts.

A Unique Client Showcase
One of the most engaging moments of the evening came when our client, Sami Kalliola, shared his experience with bespoke tailoring. He showcased his unique ‘boho chic’ wedding outfit, which featured a beige lightweight suit, a blue waistcoat, and a Nehru-style collar.
Sami also picked up two pairs of shoes that perfectly complemented his suit. His candid remark about previous tailors being “sh*t” had the audience in fits of laughter, reinforcing just how much he appreciated the bespoke experience.
Special Guests & Memorable Moments
Another close friend of our brand, Phil Rush, was the winner of a competition we held, and we flew him in from the UK to attend in person. Phil, a fantastic guest, thoroughly enjoyed the evening, which culminated in celebratory glasses of champagne.
Despite the indulgence, I managed to catch my 5 AM flight back home, albeit exhausted but incredibly satisfied with how the event unfolded.
