Raymond Chung (real name Yat On Chung) was born in Hong Kong and moved to the UK in his 20’s. He grew up in a family of artisans, stitching clothes from the age of 6 years old. Raymond always knew he wanted to be a tailor and trained to become exceptional at the art of cutting and trouser-making. By the age of 20 he was running his own tailoring shop in Downtown Hong Kong. From humble beginnings Raymond’s exceptional talents shone through. In recent years he’s tailored for members of the British Royal family, Paul Smith Bespoke, Anderson & Shepard and a number of military tailors.

He yearned to become recognised as top of the tree in his trade. The best place to do this was in the home of tailoring, London. Initially working for military tailors, Raymond began to stand out as a genius at his craft. Making even the most complex alterations look simple, marking and cutting in an unfathomably rapid time. He began to draw directly on to the cloth, without the need to slow down the process with card cutting templates. In 2012 Ian Fielding-Calcutt advertised for a tailor to help with alterations and bring their tailoring in house. Raymond was the perfect candidate on paper - but barely spoke a word of English! He brought his son David in to translate, but Ian saw talent and felt good energy so decided to take on Raymond in the role of alterations tailor.

For at least a year Ian wasn’t even aware of Raymond’s incredible cutting and making ability. When he was let down by a local workshop (and Raymond’s English had improved!) he spoke to Ian about producing the company’s bespoke tailoring in-house. From then on in our partnership became forged and Raymond acted as the perfect hands for our eyes in measuring and fitting. All this time later we continue to work together on our bespoke Elegance products, entirely made in England. Raymond is a true master craftsman as well as being a solid member of Ian’s friendship group.
