The return of the Double-Breasted suit

The double-breasted suit has always been around but now this 1940’s Hollywood staple has  come back with a bang! We aren’t interested in the oversized 80’s looks with big shoulder pads and bulky shape any more.  Now it’s about the 40’s sleek jackets with peak lapels and a modern cut, making it feel younger and fresher

Making it fit right for you

A lot of people think of a double-breasted jacket as boxy but with the right structure, cut and tailor, it can look as slim as any other jacket, even with the extra fabric. A modern approach to this classic style means we cut it closer to the shoulder to eliminate that oversized shape.  That contemporary cut means more movement in the body and a sleek silhouette.

Why choose the double-breasted look?

A slimming look is one of the selling features of a double-breasted style.  Whether you choose a four button or six button front, the highest buttons are generally placed at a wider stance.  Consequently this narrows the appearance of the waist.

This slimming effect can also be seen in the fastening of the jacket.  The middle row of buttons will pull the jacket in around the waist giving a flattering silhouette. The focus on wide peak lapels in the modern interpretation of the DB jacket also draws the eyes upwards, making the wearer appear taller.

The double-breasted jacket is a great way to make a statement.  It can be more decorative and add character to your look especially when you choose a fabric that really speaks to you.

Making it casual

With this new feel to a double-breasted suit we can choose lighter weight fabrics, such as linens. The casual styling of the jacket means it will be a vital and versatile staple in your wardrobe.  Easier to pair with a more casual look, it can work really well as a separate piece outside of the classic suit.

With a pair of jeans or light weight chinos it makes a great summer style.  Or for a nautical look with French Rivera vibes pair it with an Armor-lux striped Breton.
