10 summer-style essentials you should own

Summer is nearly upon us and making sure you have everything in your wardrobe ready for whatever the warmer months might bring is key to always looking good.

Here are our top 10 essentials to make sure you are always looking tip-top.

Plain white T-shirts

A plain white tee is often the base of a good outfit, it literally goes with everything from layered under a suit to with a basic pair of jeans or shorts. It’s a versatile, comfortable staple that you definitely need.

You can invest quite a lot into great basics but we would highly recommend Uniqlo basic men’s T-shirts the quality is excellent for the price and will last you for years.

Polo shirts

You know how much we love polo shirts, they are the perfect piece that straddles the smart casual dress code and having at least one for the summer is absolutely necessary.

If you are heading to a casual event but want to make sure you look presentable this is your choice.

There are hundreds of different colours, shapes and styles to choose from. For example, long sleeves, knitted, colourful, plain or patterned, you’ve just got to find your style.

Rugby Shirts

The rugby shirt is a very underused piece of clothing that we think should become one of your top picks for a casual summer. It’s the perfect versatile piece due to it being long-sleeved and normally made from a thick material, this allows you to wear it throughout the day and into the evening without getting cold.

We would also describe it as a piece that sits on the fence of smart casual so you can wear it to most summer events like picnics, seeing friends or weekends away. They also come in a great number of colours and fabric choices.

Overshirts

The humble overshirt is the perfect layering piece for the summer as it’s a button-up shirt (normally made in a slightly heavier fabric than your normal shirt such as cotton drill rather than a poplin) which is layered over a T-shirt giving you that extra layer of warmth and protection without having to carry around a jacket.

It’s easy to throw on, very on-trend and goes with most great casual outfits.

Cotton shorts

A must-have for summer cotton shorts are perfect for the warm weather as cotton (a natural fibre) is very breathable and soft to the skin which is what you want when the weather is making you hot and bothered.

There are loads of great styles and colours available that are perfect for all your casual events and just your day-to-day summer look as well.

Causal trainers

Comfort is key in hot weather and a pair of smart casual trainers has got to be on our list of essentials. They go with all casual outfits and sometimes even elevate a look.

The type of trainers depends on you and your own style, but we love the brand New balance for comfort and style

Sunglasses

A must-have accessory is at least one good pair of sunglasses. Preferably one black and one brown pair so you can style them with your outfit.

They elevate any look at any time of year but you definitely need them when the sun is out and shining.

Swim trunks

For your summer holidays or when the weather is exceptionally nice in the Uk, swim shorts are needed and the market nowadays is full of some great patterns, shapes and styles its just finding the ones you love.

Basic grey sweatshirt

Now a basic grey sweatshirt might sound boring but much like the plain white T-shirt, it will be one of the most useful pieces in your wardrobe, perfect for layering when it gets cold in the evening and is just a pillar of casual style.

Summer suit

We have talked a lot about summer casual style but we cannot forget about a beautiful summer suit: cotton, linen, seersucker to name a few fabrics perfect for the summer months.

We would always recommend having a winter suit wardrobe and a summer suit wardrobe to match the seasons perfectly.

Let us know if you’ve got any summer essentials that you think we should add to the list…
